Another way to look at the people we serve is by the purpose of their trip. This is a practical way for hotels to understand their market.

  • Leisure Travelers: Traveling for fun, vacation, or holidays. This is a large segment in places like Pokhara and Kathmandu.

  • Business Travelers: Traveling for work, meetings, or conferences. They often have different needs, like reliable Wi-Fi and a quiet workspace. Kathmandu’s business hotels cater to them.

  • Pilgrims: Traveling for religious reasons. Lumbini and Muktinath see huge numbers of pilgrims, especially during certain seasons. Their needs include simple, clean accommodation and easy access to religious sites.

  • VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives): Travelers staying with family or friends. They might not need a hotel, but they will spend money in local restaurants and shops.

  • Special Interest Travelers: Traveling for a specific hobby or purpose, like bird watching in Chitwan, photography in the Himalayas, or volunteering at a monastery.
