Tourists are not all the same. They have different interests, budgets, and expectations. Classifying them helps hospitality businesses design the right products and marketing. One common way is based on their behavior and preferences.

  • Explorer: Seeks discovery and gets off the beaten path. They want an authentic experience, like trekking in a remote area of Dolpo.

  • Adventure Tourist: Looks for excitement and physical challenge. They go white-water rafting, bungee jumping, or peak climbing.

  • Organized Mass Tourist: Prefers package tours with everything planned. They are often part of a large group, staying in standard hotels and visiting famous sights like Swayambhunath.

  • Backpacker: Travels on a budget, often carrying their own bag. They stay in budget hostels and tea houses, and usually travel independently. Pokhara’s Lakeside is full of backpackers.

  • Cultural Tourist: Interested in history, art, and local traditions. They will spend time in museums, heritage hotels, and local festivals.
